The Science
Why Dry Styx™ works
— and why nothing else works quite like it.
Most people assume damp control means chemicals. Dry Styx™ proves otherwise. Here's the science that makes it possible.
The problem with conventional desiccants.
The bucket has a dirty secret.
Traditional desiccant products - the crystal buckets you find at the supermarket - are made from calcium chloride. When calcium chloride contacts airborne moisture, it triggers a chemical reaction that converts that moisture into a corrosive liquid slurry. That liquid has to be carefully disposed of. Then you buy another bucket. And another.
Beyond the ongoing cost, calcium chloride liquid is classified as a chemical irritant. It can damage flooring, harm pets, and requires careful handling to avoid skin and eye contact. It also generates continuous plastic waste with every replacement cycle.
This is the solution the industry has accepted for decades. Dry Styx™ was designed to replace it entirely.
The material that changes everything.
The lattice structure.
More surface area. More power.
What makes Dry Styx™ unusually effective isn't just the material — it's the structure. The silicon dioxide membrane is configured as a tetrahedral lattice: a microscopic three-dimensional matrix that dramatically multiplies the available surface area inside each unit.
To put it simply — the more surface area a moisture-trapping material has, the more aggressively it can pull moisture from the surrounding air. The Dry Styx™ lattice is engineered to maximise that surface area within a compact, practical form factor. This is why a small Pod can have a meaningful impact in a wardrobe drawer, and why the Twin Tower can handle an entire open living area.
Industrial heritage.
Trusted by industries where failure isn't an option.
This technology didn't start in the home. For decades, silicon dioxide adsorption has been the standard moisture-control method used to protect semiconductor microchips during manufacturing - where even trace moisture causes catastrophic component failure - and to preserve sensitive medical imaging equipment in clinical environments.
The performance requirements in those industries are uncompromising. The technology has been tested, refined, and validated across millions of applications at the highest possible standards.
Dry Styx™ takes that same proven science and brings it into the home in a practical, safe, and affordable form. The material is identical. The physics is identical. The application is simply new.
Adsorption vs absorption.
Adsorption. Not absorption. The difference matters.
These two words look almost identical but describe fundamentally different processes - and the difference is what makes Dry Styx™ reusable.
Absorption is what calcium chloride does. The moisture is taken into the material itself, triggers a chemical reaction, and transforms into liquid. That process is irreversible. The material is consumed and must be replaced.
Adsorption is what silicon dioxide does. Moisture molecules are attracted to and held on the surface of the material - physically, not chemically. The material itself doesn't change. Nothing is consumed. When heat is applied during regeneration, those surface-held molecules release back into the air as vapour, and the membrane returns to its original dry state - ready to adsorb again.
This is why Dry Styx™ can be regenerated hundreds of times without degradation. The material isn't being used up. It's simply being reset.
The regeneration process.
Heat in. Moisture out. Ready again.
The indicator.
No guesswork. Ever.
Every Tower and Pod in the Dry Styx™ system includes a built-in moisture indicator - a simple, reliable visual signal that tells you exactly what state your unit is in at any time.
Bright orange means the unit is dry and actively protecting your environment. Dark green or black means the membrane is fully saturated and ready for regeneration.
There's no schedule to follow, no timer to set, and no uncertainty about whether your system is working. The indicator tells you everything you need to know.
The regen indicator.

Bright Orange - Dry and active. Your Dry Styx™ is working.
Dark Green - Filling up. Regeneration coming soon.
Black - Fully saturated. Time to regenerate.
